Android phones and USB DACs - Page 71

For anyone else using their Android phone as a music hub in their cars, and never figured out how to make phone calls work at the same time, I bring you the oldest news in the book.... "Bluetooth".  With pictures!  lol  
I finally figured out how to make it all work at the same time.

Yes, I guess I can be "slow" with "some things" from time to time.  ;)

But I can’t get correct playback with 24/96 files through 24/96-capable ODAC or FiiO E17.

Righto, so I have an audison Bit Ten which has Optical/TOSLINK in and RCA IN. TO get digital audio from the GS3, which would I be better off using? And which adapters/cables? Will I still need a DAC?

How about a Behringer UCA202 with (digital) Optical Output and (analog line out) Output, the one used by CZ Eddie for the upgrade of his car stereo?

Thanks mate.

Having digital out from the GS3 goes through the OTG and into the DAC, then digital OUT via the optical? Correct?

Do these little DAC's require any tuning etc...?

stock Galaxy S3 > digital USB audio out >> "USB OTG" cable >> Behringer UCA202 > digital optical out >> optical cable >> Audison Bit Ten D

 

Usually, plug and play with the right cables and with the non-faulty devices.

I'm curious though is this still using androids kernel for processing the 16/44 files? If so this is still the downfall of the devices as androids kernel is downright crap.

As far as I understand, there is no 16/44.1 limitation in the stock Android kernel (i.e. Linux kernel) of most current Android devices.
Android Linux kernel is able to drive 32/384-capable USB DAC.
 
The beauty of Android is its open source.
As Android is open source, Samsung doesn’t have to follow blindly Google ignoring the standard USB audio, and the Samsung people have implemented the Linux ALSA USB audio on their Galaxy S3 / Note2.
Also, despite some 16/44.1 limitation due to the current audio mixer at the ROM level of current stock Android, iBasso or eXtream Software Development can provide Android software which can support 16-bit and 24-bit audio streams.

Well that is obviously not the case. Even Power Amp and neutron says android is limited to 16/44 and that the kernel isn't that good to begin with. This is clearly the case even on the DX100. The custom API ibasso created bypasses the crappy kernel on android thus you get the full benefit of the sabre DAC. If you listen to music on Power Amp or Neutron audio even on 16/44 is really sounds mediocre in comparison to ibassos Stock player. This is not only due to the 16/44 limit but the inherent limitations in androids kernel impacting the sound in a negative way.
