Enlightenment about in-ear moniters please!

Hi there!

I want to ask if anyone could enlighten me on the difference between in-ear "monitors" and in-ear "headphones". I understand that mons usually have more noise reduction is that correct? But other then the increased noise reduction are there any differences in terms of sound quality. And if I buy a SGD100+ set of headphones would it match up to a set of in-ear mons that cost maybe around SGD200?

I'm currently using TDK's BA100 which I find very good. Only lacking thing would be that it doesn't do a good job of producing crisp vocals. Was thinking of upgrading to a better pair of headphones and wondering if i should go for in-ear mons or if normal in ears would be able to reproduce the quality of mons.

Thanks!

They are one and the same. The more popular term around here is in-ear monitors, or, IEMs. They are also called canalphones. People often use the term earbud to denote both IEMs and actual earbuds, which is a fallacy.
