Hi headfi'ers!

When I stepped up from the crappy bundled earphones  to a nice pair of SE110 I was amazed at how much better they sounded.

The thing is, this happened a few years after:

The cabling became stiff, developed cracks and the wiring oxidized/broke.

Is there anything I could had done to ensure they would last longer. (~2.5 years)

The interactions between sweat and the cabling surely contributed to the cable deteriorating, but shure, ue and the like equip stage artists that sweat a lot more that i do during the daily commute.

Ok those were, at the time, the entry level consumer model, but still, they must have know how on how to make them more durable.

So, after searching for reviews and looking at what is available localy and on the internet, I am pondering two models, the shure SE315 and the UE700.

The SE315 do look like they are a big step up in terms of durability, the part of the cable that goes over the ear is reinforced and their casing looks solid, the reviews I have read confirm that.

The UE700 don't look that durable, and looking at these threads:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/543300/looking-for-the-ue700-flavor-title-has-to-be-long-to-attract-attention

http://www.head-fi.org/t/581977/ue700-vs-shure-se425-and-changes-from-ue-to-logitechs-design (even flimsier?)

things don't look too good

The only reason I am hesitating is that from the opinions I've read on the forums, the SE315 are good "overall", but the UE700 are brighter and personally I think I would like that kind of sound better. (although as I listen to a lot of female vocalists, sibilance might be a problem? biggrin.gif)

I am looking for opinions from owners of these as well as general care advice for iems. Anyone experienced the same problem I did, went the shure upgrade path and found the durability really better? Do UE700 owners experience cabling problems or other durability issues? (they look so tiny and the cable so thin!)

Thanks!
