KRK KNS 8400. Overall an extremely neutral signature. In that sense, the mids aren't particularly special, I just like the way that good mids combine with excellent clarity and detail.
V-Moda M-80. Much better mids than the Crossfade LPs, although again I don't know if its mids are quite "superb".
Ones you should research (for these, I don't know exactly what they are known to be good at, but they are so well praised in general that you should look up their Head Fi review pages to see if they are good at mids):
DT770s
Brainwavz HM5/FA-003
HD25s
HD 598s (I think they drop to around $200 sometimes)
Plenty more...
I find that the Fischer Audio FA-003/Brainwavz HM5 has really svelte, nice mids. I love piano music with it, and it practically makes love to acoustic guitar.
Hahahaha... I might as well do it.
T50RP
Shure SRH840 would be a really excellent choice. I listened to plenty of Gavin Degraw, Sara Bareilles, and Norah Jones, when I had mine. Also some John Legend in the mix, too.
Sennheiser HD 25-1 II are pretty good, too. I just cued up "Ordinary People" as I'm typing this.
I thought AKG k271 mkII had a nice mid-range, but was thin on the bass, so I think you'd miss out on a lot of the lower half of the piano.
If you can find a nice used pair of Sennheiser HD 580/600/650 in your price range, don't hesitate to do that.
Within your price range, the K601's and K271's have the best mids I've heard. The K601's bass extends lower, but are more demanding amp-wise than the K271's.
If you don't mind going used, or stretching your budget, the Sony MDR-CD900ST's have the absolute best mids I've heard in any headphone. The problem is, you can usually only buy them in Japan, so you either have to import them ($250 on Audiocubes), or buy used from someone who already has.
