Hi. Been searching around a bit. Decided to get a SS amp for my DT 990. Though i read alot that OTL is the thing for DT 990 600 it should be some decent SS amps for it to ? Cause I like the SQ of the DT 990 and i dont feel the need something to get a warmer sound. I already the nuforce HDP but it feels like it dont have the power to drive it, and its not neutral either.

Im little into the Musical Fidelity M1 HPA amp, it seems nice ?

Thanks.

From my listening experience the DT990 is quite bass-heavy and warm, so you may want to go with a bright SS amp like the SPL Auditor for example, but it all depends of what music you like.

Well. Its kind of warm sound but it has some treble that could be a little edgy sometimes. And my HDP is a bit bright by itself and doesnt do well with the highs. So im looking more for a just neutral amp that handles the treble better then HDP.

If money is no object, take a look at beta22 or GS1.  They are dead natural sounding amp.

I use the Grace m902b - but I'm in the process of upgrading to the new Grace m903

I should get it next week (I hope). L3000.gif

I use the Musical Fidelity M1 HPA with my PS-1000 and I'm very happy.

I think it's very neutral, as any good amp should be, and any great pair of phones will sound great with the M1, I believe.

Good luck.

Another choice is the HA-160, fun sound and engaging.

I have tried all of the above mentioned amps with various headphones and I think the Musical Fidelity M1 may just be the one for you.
Since it uses the Class-A architecture (which functions more like a heater [25W] lol) it has low frequency roll-off and wide soundstage.
which i think will go quite well with the DT990.

Violectric anyone??

600 Ohm Beyers require lots of V - the grace may be nice but simply doesn't have the Volts - it would be louder from the balanced line output than from the headphone output with 600 Ohm load

Violetric would be a good choice, maybe... Phonitor?

Thanks for all the tips. But I think I might go for the M1 HPA anyway. I have only read positive reviews about it, and the last amps u recommended maybe was a little expensive. Not that I cant afford it but it feels dumb and overkill to use it with a midfi phone.

If there is anyone who tried the dt 990 with M1 HPA please share your impressions.

M1 HPA user manual:

Output level 5.2V rms max

/= lots of Volts

I wouldn't buy it to "improve" listening experience with 600 Ohm cans

Before you buy consider the April Music Eximus DP1.  Whats scary is some say the amp part is better than a Woo WA5.  Thats pretty impressive coming from a solid state.
