I have an old reciever, a Harman Kardon AVR 4500, I use this with my surround set (SVS) when I watch movies.

But when I dont use my big screen tv and just sit and listen to music (Spotify Premium) at my PC I just have my laptop (Thinkpad W520) and a pair of Sennheiser HD 555 connected direcly to that.

So if I use my Harman Kardon, should that give me better sound? I just use a cheap usb soundcard with spdif in it, but I could get a better if that will limit it (I suppose it shouldnt as there is no converting going on?)

Because then I could have the wireless headphones and sit both at my desktop and watch movies, and I could just pull the RS 180 and use my speakers.

How would that compare to for example a Fiio E17 with my HD 555?

Note: I cant use the HD 555 in the reciever as my desk is too far away from my rack
