What do you think about DT990? They are about same price in Finland and easier to get.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

The 990s are one of my very fave headphones.

HOWEVER, they are love/hate headphones. They have a LOT of treble, which bother a lot of people. I'm not joking. Its very sharp. You either have to use some very warm amp/source, or eq the treble down. I liked them as is, but I can see why the others wouldn't.

They also aren't as balanced as the DT880s. The 990s have a lot of sub bass, distant (but clear mids), and of course, very emphasized treble. The 880s are more linear, with very slightly emphasized bass, very slightly laid back mids, and slightly emphasized treble.

DT900's , especially the 600's are really fun cans but you'd have to be really keen to have them as your

sole set of headphones. As mentioned above, they're V-shaped in their response - bass is fairly reasonable

with impact but the sub bass is very generous - treble to my ears is extended and not harsh but again that's

my personal taste coupled with particular source and amping.

If you were a total basshead who did not listen to acoustic or vocals and fancied using them as movie cans

every now and then - they'd be just about perfect, sound stage is very spacious for a Beyer too,.

I still love mine for a big bass bash every now and then. They do certain genres like reggae and dub quite

 convincingly.

Agreed. I really only gave mine up because I got the D7000s. Didn't need 2 cans that excelled in the same things.

I like more V kind of style than flat. So 990 is enough for me. Differense in price is just $20. And I noticed in some rewiev too that they got great bass sounds.

I'm not listening only boom boom boom if you think that, but my current cans are just too lame to produce any kind of kick to lowsounds. Of course vocals are nice too :D

I listen all kind of genres in music but in my EQ I use slight V setup, that just rocks to me in every genre.

About amp, I currently have Marantz SR5005. If i buy some stereo amp like Marantz(someone said that their headphone out is good), I wont need any dac or headphone amp? In the future Ill maeby buy pair of speakers too so then i wont need to buy other amp.

But Im still worried about quality of stereo amps headphone out..

Any recommendations?

Good reason there to be worried, I've only tried my 600ohm DT990's out of the one receiver - a mate's Yamaha

which is not all that old, the model number escapes me now - in any case, it was nothing like a good head

amp. Flat, thin, tinny - not good.

My recommendation would be to get the DT990's first and then hit the shops with them under your arm, ask

to hear the headphone out before committing to a new receiver - no doubt you will hear differences across

 brands and price ranges.

I never thought of that! I feel like doing that with my Denons. biggrin.gif

Good point Gwarmi! Maybe ill just do that. I can test those first with my current Marantz. Just heard that theyve got one of the best headphone amps in AV/Stereo receivers. Their stereo sound in AV receivers are musical and with my current cans headphone sounds well, maybe i cant compare cause my current cans sound awfull in every amp/receiver.

Isn't Denon someway family to Marantz(just heard somewhere)? Same components or something like that.

Hey. I have been making some research about dacs with headphone and decided to buy dac(not stereo amplifier) cause so many says that stereo amps doesnt have very good headphone out and then my beyerdynamic cans will not earn their full potential.

Just found one great dac from Internet

Fostex HP-A3 192khz/32bit dac with headphone out. Maybe littlebit overkill to beyerdynamic cans but its reviewed very good at $400 price range.

Other option is still Matrix Mini-i about $100 cheaper.

It might be more difficult to source but the Audio-gd NFB-5 $330USD + shipping is tough to beat - 2 x Wolfson DAC's and a very sturdy headphone amp

that can drive just about any current production headphone (exception being HiFiMan He-6) (2ohm output impedance on the headphone amp section)

That looks like one badass dac what i read from specs. And must sound well with all those "flawor" options?

That's what I personally went with. On paper, it has all that I could ask for, outside of the lack of analog inputs.

Well I dont need any analog inputs :) only thing i need is coaxial input and good headphone output :)
