Will a DAC get rid of the hiss in my M6s?

Thread Starter

I listen to a variety of music (dance/electronic, rock, rap, lately opera) on my MacBook Pro.  I admit to having mostly cheap headphones/IEMs, and lately I've been using my MEElectronics M6s a lot because they are really comfortable.  However, they seem to have 16 Ohm impedance, which I understand makes them on the low end of impedance for headphones.  Furthermore I generally listen to music at very, very low volumes.  I'm pretty sure that the combination of low volume + low impedance + MacBook Pro built-in audio card = audible hiss in my M6s.  The hiss is really distracting me from enjoying my music.

Is a DAC likely to solve this hissing problem?

In particular I was looking at the E17.  I understand it's a DAC/amp combo, and that it's probably overkill for my cheap headphones (I think my RE0s are the most expensive pair I currently own), but its price is not outside my means and I'm happy to consider it an investment for future, more demanding headphones I might buy.

Thanks!

Yes. I have the Fiio E7 by itself. It removed the hiss for me.
