Hi, I'm new to Head-Fi.org and I've been visiting Head-Fi quite frequently now that I'm out to find a replacement head/earphone so I decided to make an account here on the forums to help me find better answers to my questions and needs.
I don't know if I'm posting in the right section but I'm trying to look for suggestions and get first hand experience on what to buy in my next portable head/earphone.
So in the past I've owned two headphones in particular in which I've used extensively:
- One being my beloved Sennheiser HD 477s which I love for the accurate sound and sharp highs, (at least compared to the ear buds I used before) however it's an open ear and the design of the plastic frame over time has worn and doesn't provide much of a grip on the ears. On top of that the cable started to deteriorate on both ends of the leads connecting the drivers. Open ear design makes the headphone difficult to use on buses and subways letting in too much noise.
- Second was the infamous Beats by Dr Dre Studio which I've unfortunately bought for the design and we all know where this ends up. I got them stolen from me awhile back, had my face covered in blood and got me into a ongoing police report. With price and that aside there were some great things going for it like the ControlTalk (answering calls), comfort (fit ears pretty sturdy), mute button (convenient for social purposes) and somewhat usable noise cancelling.
Now I'm out again for a new head/earphone, this time away from any eye catching, large, expensive looking pair of headphones for around the $400 price range in CAD. I've already somewhat made my decision in buying the Sennheiser IE 80s, reasons because I'm already familiar and fond with the Sennheiser sound and it being an IEM it is something less conspicuous than say the HD lineup where someone can tell is worth something.
I've also considered maybe buying a JH Audio JH5 PRO because my weird conscience makes myself think that if it's custom it will discourage others from stealing and that I've heard good things about the company especially with the JH13's and 16's.
As for music, I like to a lot of electronic based music such as electro house, trance, dance along with pop and occasional ballads with piano and vocals.
I'd also like to add that it'd be a plus for the head/earphone to have some kind of playback control where hopefully they make an cable similar to the IE8i for the IE80's
It's been a long read, thank you for your time and suggestion in advance!
