Headphones for 150-200, I need help...

Before I start I wanted to say two things.

  1. I'm an audio noob, I would like to say otherwise, but I can't.
  2. It took me a little while to post... You guys are talked about quite respectfully when audio is mentioned.

Anyways, if you say something technical,I should be able to figure it out quick enough. I'm interested in buying my first set of decent cans. They will be used for gaming (BF3 mostly), and music. On the music, a little bit of everything, some Hip-Hop/Rap, but when I'm studying, classical, and Jazz. I know that this  price range is posted quite often here sounds like a lot of threads on this forum, but they were not exactly what I wanted.

I had originally been recommended some Ultrasone 550's, (different forum) and while they were nice, I had two of the attached cables short out in one week, actually, one came defective, and the other broke after a week without any type of harsh treatment, so I returned them.If they are a good deal I wouldn't be against buying them again.

With my budget, I was thinking of spending 150$ on the over ear headphones, and I also needed something portable. Obviously for under 50$ I can't get anything "good" but I don't want to spend tons on IEM's, as these will be used at school, and those wouldn't be the greatest place for big, expensive headphones, or expensive IEM's for that matter.

After reading similar threads I have seen the M50's recommended a fair amount. I am a member of overclock.net, and they said those weren't very good.

For gaming you should definitely look at Mad Lust Envy's gaming headphone thread as there is a wealth of information.

Also will you be using them for music at all, and if so what types?

Currently, I am planning on getting the Ultrasone 550's again, and getting some cheap skullcandy IEM's or something along those lines.

Anyone else? I would love to order? Between these headphones what would you choose?

The M50's

Ultrasone Hifi 580

Ultrasone Pro 550

or the Grados SR80i what would you choose? Anything else good in this range?

I am sorta a bass head...

I wouldn't consider Grado's if you are something of a "bass head".

Since you are already considering the Ultrasone 580's, I'll list a few other headphones you might want to consider.

Creative Aurvana Live!  (has slight bass emphasis, warm tone, good for gaming)

Sony ZX700  generally regarded as a good all-rounder, but not particularly bass heavy

KRK 8400

Look through some user reviews of these.

+1.

I also think they wouldn't be good for gaming...with the small sound stage.

I hope I've done all right. I felt after looking through the other forums I would need to be really patient if I wanted to get several responses so... I ordered some Ultrasone HFI-780's. Good/Ok or shoulda waited?

I would recommend trying out the Sennheiser HD598s.  Great headphones for both gaming and just listening.
