Setup is a MacBook Air 11 (2010). I listen to some Apple lossless files, but mostly streaming at 320 kbps from MOG.

 

Headphones are Ultrasone HFI-550s from a few years back.

 

Wondering how much difference something like a DACport or a Nuforce Icon HDP will make. Understand that the DACport runs off the USB, the Nuforce needs a plug, and the limitations of each. Wondering if the Nuforce is better (smoother, tighter bass, soundstage, noise floor, etc) enough to give up the portability aspect.

 

And wondering what others' experience is with similar setups and if I am missing any other high value options?

 

Appreciate all comments. While I will likely upgrade the phones at some point, would like to think about this purchase based on the existing cans.
