Very confused with headphone choice..

I really love my Earsonic SM3's but sometimes they seem to lack the "Zing" or the "Pop" I'm looking for.

The Earsonic SM3 was my first ever IEM. I love how IEMs are portable and easy to cary and sound pretty good too.

To me the SM3 doesn't seem to compare to a pair of cans. It sounds almost empty.

I like Bass, but also I enjoy listening to Indie Music, Rock, Jazz, Pop, Rap, Dub-Step, Trance, and Acoustic music.

I like lively depth and a nice soundstage.

Since this is a large variety of genre I was thinking about getting multiple headphones?

I'm often on the go but I find myself at home wanting to kick back and put on a pair of Cans and I also wouldn't mind dragging around clunky headphones if I had to.

The budget ~ $1400.00

I love, love, love IEMs.

I was looking at the UM Merlins and have read some great reviews on how they are "full-filling" and have good amounts of "Bass"..

I have also seen horrible reviews for the UM Merlins that scare me.

Then again the JHPro's look nice too and I have heard good and bad from them also.

Maybe re-shell some IE8's?

I also want a nice Over-ear set of headphones...

Maybe a pair of HD-800's? I have heard great things from these heaphones! If I got these headphones I wouldn't have to wait to have them molded either.

I really love the look of AKG's but I don't know if I would like the sound..

It's been a while since I have done any over-ear headphone research. What is good on the market?

What will suite my needs best?

Help me make up my mind.

What should I do and what combinations of headphones do you guys suggest I should go with?

Thanks soo much!!

Are amps + DACs included in your budget? If I had your sort of money I'd get a mid-tier headphone and a mid-tier IEM, and spend the rest on an amp and DAC. Of course, I consider anything above low-mid tier as diminishing returns, so take all that with a grain of salt. For fullsized, maybe a Denon D-series could benefit you? Decent soundstage, closed design (although it leaks like an open) and when amped has great bass potential. Upper-end AKG's = bass light, but nice soundstage due to the open design.

I used to have a pair of Grados, I loved the sound stage and open phone but I hated how people could hear my music while I listened. Might have to try out a Denton D series, what model do you suggest? I currently have the Emmeline "The Predator" amp/ DAC. I could do desktop amp but I'm really on the go more often! Thanks!
