Im a begining audiophile ,what headphones should i get ?

Hi Head-fi community , I am looking for a pair of headphones that are 100$'s or less that have:

-relatively good sound isolation and minimal sound leakage (this is a must have as i live with people that hate it if i am listining on the couch and music leaks out)

- i would like them to be portable but this is not a must have

- I need a thick and or detachable cable because i tend to break cables no matter how careful i am

- I would like them to look somewhat nice but this isnt a must have because i do like to paint over things so i might just customize it myself

-And last but not least be powered by a ipod without an amp

Thanks ahead of time :) And if you guys have any tips for me as to which amp to buy (because i will be buying one eventualy ) that would also help :)

Shure 440 would fit that bill.

Alternatively, you could try searching the forums with terms like "$100", "unamped" and "closed".

Thanks and sorry i should have i did try searching "Beginner audiophile headphones" and "entry level headphones " but i didn't find anything that fit the bill of what i was looking for .

Those searches would return a really wide range of results. Being more specific gets narrower results, which helps you save time.

You know your budget, so you should include that in your search terms.

Since you don't want it amped, then that's what we call "unamped".

And you want to block sound from outside coming in, and from leaking out of the headphones. Which is why you need to search for "closed" headphones.

Brainwavz HM5.  My review here:

Currently $120 from mp4nation - ticks almost all your boxes.  And yes it is worth it spending the extra $20

I know about closed back headphones and thanks for the tip about calling them unamped :) and yes my main problem was getting headphones that were at the price point of 150 - 200 USD or headphones that wernt quite what i was looking for ( I.E. I would get headphones with thin cables or bass heavy cans ) Thanks again for your help :)

??

Wait, is your budget <100 or 150-200?

If it's up to 200 you can start considering the HD 25-1.

ive been using Shure SRH440's for quite a while (2 years-ish?) and honestly i recommend them for the clarity it gives for its price. it does lack the thump (bass) some people might want with their songs but its a really nice pair.

i also found that putting Shure SRH840 ear pads on the 440 to be a lot more comfortable and give off a better sound. but the pads cost an extra 20-30?

Thank you for your imput :) i have bought the SRH440's based on the imput of you and Eric_C's imput

@Brooko :O i completely missed your post up till now I already bought the SRH440's and in all honesty i cant spare 20 dollars ( i am a high school student and my town is a small one with little to no jobs for teenagers )
