Tube or Hybrid Amp for D2000?

Hi All,

I need an amp for my precious D2000 ( I'm just in love with it :) )  I did my home work and I already know that SS works better with Denons due to low impedance of Denons but I just want to experience " Tube sound" . Also I love the steam punk look of tube amps.

I have a couple of questions for actual tube amp / Denon users:

- Is it possible to feel the famous Tube Amp sound in 100$ - 300$ price range?

- Will Denons really under perform with Tube amps ( my first choice ) ? Can Hybrids ( second choice) perform comparable to SS Amps?

- Are there any recommendations for Tube's and Hybrids for Denons? Anybody is using Tube or Hybrid Amp with Denons and recommend me a good one below 300$?

- or is it just bad Idea to use a Tube amp with D2000? Should I just focus on Hybrid or SS? I don't expect the Tube/Hybrids to be as good as SS. I just want to know if they would actually worth it.

Thanks in advance

Best,

Notwist

My D7000s are brilliant with my EF5, and it's every bit as good as any SS amp in its price range, IMO. People make a lot of to-do about the Dx000 cans being too warm for tubes, and for some tube setups they may have a point, but good hybrids are more about smoothness than color.

Check out the Head-Fi for sale area, there's a like-new EF5 selling for $250, which is $149 below retail. That's a steal.

Thanks Magick, I'll definitely look into EF5's. I have never considered EF5 before but I highly value first hand experience.

Any other recommendations or answers to my questions above will be very appreciated.

I had a hybrid, but it became defect after a week so I had to send it back. But when I used it with my D2k I was very pleased.

A hybrid amp is perfect for the Denon headphones. The X-Can V8 works really well with D5000. If you can find one used (which is nearly impossible since they stopped making them) you should definitely consider it.
