Hi, newbie audiophile here. I got the Brainwavz B2 as my first 'real' IEMs and I know that analytical sound sig is risky for first timers. So here I am looking for an upgrade, and im looking at the UM3x and the ER4P. I want detailed sound, good imaging, nice highs and smooth and a little warm mids. I pretty much liked the treble on the B2s, but want something a tat less bright this time. I also wish for just a little more bass. I would most likely be pairing the ER4P to a ZO2, so I guess that solves the 'bassless' issue. I have no way of trying them out, so im counting on you guys herewink_face.gif. Also I'll not be getting them online so it'll probably be at MSRP or a little lower only. Oh, and if there's any other suggestions (like W4, eq7 etc ) im open to themsmily_headphones1.gif.

The ER4P are very detailed in mids, highs(clean, extended)and offers good bass response with great imaging, instruments separation. Westone UM3x are very detailed in mids with less sparkles in highs than ER4P, B2 and overall are little warm sounding with superb imaging, instrument separation and good punchy bass. BTW Sony EX100, JVC FX700, GR10 willbe also close to your liking in IEMs soundsignature and they are very detailed with deep bass response.

Why not a B2 + ZO combination?  I've not heard the B2 (or UMX3), but several reviews say the B2 is very close to the ER4 in terms of details, probably close enough that only very good/sensitive ears can hear a discernable difference.  The dedicated bass of the B2 should be able to give you all the bass you would want with the ZO added.  Just a thought ...

I second this. Just get the Zo and use it on your B2. That should equivalent to what the ER4+Zo has to offer.

i'd say just go um3x and be done with it.

with a good, clean source, you won't even need an amp for it.

imo, i think it's always better spend your money on better iems, than to get an amp (much less a dedicated bassbooster).

once you get the um3x, you can sell your b2 or just keep it as back up or whatever.

Ok guys. I've decided to keep my B2 and get a second hand ZO2 for it. Well, after using my B2 exclusively for quite some time, I want to try out a different sound sig. I've read super great stuffs and also super bad stuff about the SM3. I can get a second hand sm3 v1 for half the price so im seriously considering them but the reviews perplex me. Now I don't have any experience in super high end iems so what do you guys recommend? Try out the um3x, sm3, or other iems? Thanks!

Both the ER-4 and the B2 (dba-02) are pretty analytical.  What type of sound signature would you like to try?  The UM3X are warm and mid-centric but they still have good treble (although it is no way as sparkly as the ER4), and the SM3 are somewhat dark.  Both have great instrument separation and imaging.  Looks like the SM3 have a deeper and slightly wider soundstage though.

Ok, so far the UM3x has 2 votes and the Er4P none. I really dont know what sound sig i want to try next, but I can get the sm3 v1 second hand at half the price of um3x...or should I also try out Gr07?? I may be getting a amp too, either a ibasso p4 or something similar.

The GR07 is different.  For one, it's a dynamic driver instead of the triple BA in the SM3 and UM3X.  When paired with a good source, none of these IEMs need an amp.
