Question: Is it worth getting high end ear phones?

Thread Starter

Hey everyone, first post and new to the forum tongue_smile.gif. So i apologize if i have broken any rules or posted in the wrong section and such.

So i just had a quick question. I am planning to buy a pair of mid to high end in-ear headphones, I am thinking of either getting the Monster Turbine Pro Copper or the Shure SE535 but  am open to suggestions (don't really want to spend more than $500). I am also planning to get the Headroom Total BitHead Portable Amp.

Now, the question is, is it worth buying these mid to high end headphones when i will just play all of my music though a iPhone or iPod, and most of my music is in 320kbps. Will i be better off getting a bit lower($100-300) end earphones?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Short answer? Yep. 320kbps is high quality anyway.

You could always skip the amp part and get customs for a $500 budget.

I would second this if you will be listening primarily through your ipod/iphone.

Imo very expensive earphones aren't worth the cost. Once you get over around $100, you typically get less than a 20% inprovement in quality for each doubling of the price. Unless you are very wealthy, I suggest that you look for a good earphone under $100(perhaps even under $50).

Imo it does make sense to spend over $100(but probably not over $300 unless you are very wealthy) for a good headphone to use at home, as this will probably last many years. Portable gear tends to get damaged or broken much too soon.
