Stuck between 3 Cowons. - Page 2

I have a J3 and a D3 and I prefer the J3. I can't really differentiate between them in terms of sound.

I think it'll depend on what you want from your PMP.

For purely audio, the J3 is very hard to beat, it lasts about a week for me and takes very little time to charge.

It's also fun to change themes depending on my mood.

The D3 is a real consumer player, with wifi and most of the works.

I use it at home as right now, the firmware isn't really up to standard and keeps crashing on me.

I think I might get the J3 then! xD

Oh, and do you amp your J3? what interconnect do you use? and does the interconnect matter at all? (SQ-wise)

What differences can you identify amped and unamped?

I have 2 x D2+, a pink one for female and a blue one for male artists. I also have a X7 which I adore due to the 160gigs and fast transfer speed.

D2 and the X7 definitely sounds different, X7 better bass and warmer in tonality.

I use my recently purchased Triad L3 driving either W4 or red Shure 535. For the 535, I have a multitude of cables in concert with the 3.5mm i/c., such as the Baldur mk2 and a 5N OCC silver cables both quad wired( doubled up). I am waiting on a silver/gold cable due in March.

I think one of the strong points of the Cowons, especially the X7 and J3 and generally over looked, is that the quality of the headphone out is very good!! I am driving the Triad, volume set at 33, and the result is stunning.

I am sure a line out would be even better and that is the reason that I have set my eyes on a Ibasso DX100.

Oops! I missed all those other posts,...I'll just watch for now and see what the op finally gets.

And BTW: a moderator on another website had the J3 and the X7 side by side - he stated they both sound the same. The reason he kept the X7 was because of the battery life & hdd capacity. Otherwise the sq is equal between the 2 devices,...and I've also heard it's the same between almost all the newer Cowon players.

I doubt that the D2+ sounds all that different, considering it's got the same hardware as my D2. The only difference is updated software and looking slightly different. So, it'll sound identical to the X7 as well. My i9 sounded like my D2. It just had extra setting for the sound enhancements. No real difference, so I kept my D2 (better battery life, sdhc card slot) and traded the i9.

I'm currently choosing between the X7 and J3 myself,...and they sound IDENTICLE!

you'll probably have to wait for the end of the month when i get my pay xD

I think I'll most probably get the J3 32GB then! :D since the X7s size isnt really to my liking.

I do not dispute the fact that the J3 and X7 sounds the same, but to my ears the D2+ is definitely dryer sounding and less musical.

The point I was making is that even using the headphone out, both the J3 and X7 sounds very good when an external amp is utlized via a 3.5mm mini i/c., unlike many other players. From that perspective, both Cowons are very easy to upgrade, sonically by adding a portable amp or not so portable in my casebasshead.gif.
