Defective cable on new, out of box, Shure SE535s

I just picked up a pair of Shure SE535s yesterday, and the sound cuts out on the right side earphone.  I was worried at first that these were dead on arrival, but then I pulled the cables out and swapped them.  Now the sound cuts out on the left side.    Should I contact the Ebay seller, or pick up a new cable myself?  I am finding this cable to be too long for me, and would like to get a shorter cable.  However, I am not willing to really break the bank on this.

Any cheap, short, replacement cables available?

What kind of sound cuts are you experiencing? From what I remember, it may be due to the swiveling mechanism where the joints aren't fully connected when you turn your head.

It cuts out when I turn my head a bit, lightly tapping the cable brings back the sound.  Would a different cable attach differently?

Add I would just send them back to Shure I had 2 failures with the 535's. They have a form to fill out, I didn't send them a receipt or anything. I just stated I jut got these, and explained the problem. I newly purchased cable will fix this also, but I do not know where to get a smaller cable. Maybe others can chime in as it's been a while since I sold mine

Contact the eBayer first to do an exchange. If the eBayer isn't an authorized dealer, the warranty might not' got validated by Shure.

probably the soldering on the right wire to plug but on stock cable hard to confirm. Funnily had the same problem yesterday on a silver cable I have for the 535. Keeping the head at a certain postion it played then cuts off once you move your head. Sent mine for repair and was told it is a 30mins job.

With the stock cable it will be better to send back to Shure and get a replacement.

Good luck....just a shame not be able to continue enjoying this wondeful iem.

spkrs01, I thought it's normal for all Shure IEM's with those swivelly mechanisms to have sound cuts? Especially when he mentioned he turned his head? confused_face_2.gif

Sound cuts as in the music going dead momentarily. I shouldnt think so and have never had that happen to me besides yesterday on the cable I mentioned. With 3rd party cables they usually use a transparent shrink wrap when you actually see the soldering and joint..

If its the socket try cleaning it with alcohol and see if it is a bad contact otherwise I will return to Shure and get a new cable because the music shouldnt cut out.

It seems to be a normal occurance since it happens to everyone with a Shure. Heh.

The Shure SE cables with coaxial connectors are actually very reliable. You just got a bad one. It happens.

Shure is incredibly rigorous in their cable testing procedures.

There is NO DOUBT that the sound should never cut out. Once I got my replacement from Shure (both of them) They replaced everything, I never had a problem with them. As a matter of fact, they are built so well, that I don;t think I could even break them if I wanted to. These new 535 set on the swivel are so much more reliable than the 530's in my opinion. No worries, just send them back. I did mine priority, and each time I received them back in 10 days from the day I shipped Priority. I've gone through their service 4 different times, and they are top notch I know it's a pain, but may has get it over with and then you'll be set
