Unfortunately, I don't enjoy the luxury of selling them easily here in India. And people aren't so eager to buy second hand stuff when they are out to look for something in this price range, 200$s is 10000 INR, which is kind of a big deal. People aren't as enthusiastic about Cans like US/UK. (The low market demand causes Sony to not sell anything above MDR XB300 :S).

It would cost me an arm and a leg to ship it as well... (UPS was charging me 150$ to get a sr80i shipped to me :O).

Ahh, point taken. I didn't realize you were in India.

Satisfying, Punchy and Detailed seem like promising keywords though. (I am sorry you have try so hard to describe & explain it to me - just because I can't go out to a shop and test them myself. Although, I *might* go to Seattle this summer for a Game Design exchange program - I wonder if I would want to wait so long to be in a hifi shop.)

I feel I was being accurate in writing "satisfying, punchy and detailed" to describe the bass - so I'll stick with that description.

I don't know if you'll think it's pure and rich - but for me, it complements the rest of the sound signature very, very well.

When it's time for a bass tone/note to be reproduced, the 225i's never disappoint me.

That's what I meant by 'satisfying'.

Thank you. I think BeyerDynamic 770 Pro 80 Ohms is my pick... After reading about it, it looks like an all rounder + has a very good bass (one of the best infact). Looks good and is very comfy (with spares available from Beyer).

Grado's experience feels complimentary to what I can expect from BeyerDynamic 770 Pro 80.

So I think I will basically buy both of them somewhere down the line... It just boils down to which one I get first. Maybe I'll just pick up an iGrado for that sonic signature & open feeling.

So, Anything else I need to know before I Order?

Thanks again. :)

With those genres i'm sure the sr225is won't fail to impress.. Techno is not good for the sr225is for sure... But on the other hand, every Grado is very mod friendly (if you're into that kind of thing). I have a sr225i and I think it's one of my all time favourites. I can't think of another headphone that performs rock so beautifully.

Will the 18v CmoyBB help me with the Bass?

And just in case - if I wanna choose a DT770 Pro, will a 9v/18v CmoyBB be good enough to drive them? Can I expect the 80 Ohm version to run fine on other PMPs & regular PC audio chips just fine? What to expect from those cans if I use the sr60i as a reference?

yes a cmoy will work for dt 770 pro 80 ohm, and pc and regular stuff will work.

and as far as using it with grados, don't think its gonna be night and day. the bass boost won't be that much.

I'd get the Grado first, but I'm not a big fan of the DT770 (great build quality, super comfortable, too much bass for my ears.)

In any event, you've successfully picked out two very high quality headphones which are almost complete opposites in their sound signatures.

Enjoy your purchase!

Would have expected the same.

I am sort of a closet basshead and can get lured towards smooth bass ignoring the lack of neutrality & clarity.

So I think, a BeyerDynamic 770 Pro 80 it is. Can't get any good deals anywhere though. Amazon doesn't sell it on its own - but via a seller.

Grado 225i seemed like a risky bet mostly due to many mixed reviews - some claiming it to be worlds apart from the 80i (and even better than the 325i) and some saying that its not worth the price jump.
Beyer got consistent reviews (mostly) beating even the pricier Denon D2000. Sony MDR XB700 has a crappy sound clarity & muddy bass despite the 3 Hz frequency response. And its a bit cheaper too. :)

Also helps me and some friends who love and admire good cans to taste an alternative sound signature from another brand and be excited to explore it.

This would be the first time I would be investing in an audiophile grade set of cans (and hope to grow a decent collection when I start earning). Rock is undeniably brilliant on a grado... just that, right now I work with people and I won't want them to get disturbed due to the leakage. The closed set of cans make sense given my position.

Thank you all for helping me :)
I'll try to write a review once I get it.
