Dead Bose headphones due to burst

Around July 2009, I bought the Bose On-ear headphones, and after a year of use, thought it would be funny to blast some really loud music, but what that resulted in was one side driver dead. Ever since, I have not used those headphones. Now disassembled and useless, was the cause due to burst of music or something else?

I find it highly unlikely that volume broke the drivers, unless you of course you were using a really, REALLY powerful speaker amplifier.

I think probably something small like sand or hard dust got into your drivers and caused tearing of the diaphragm. Or overall wear, though that is more unlikely given that the headphones are only 3 years old.
