DT770 80 Ohm issue - right ear louder (at certain volume)

Hi,

So I got my DT770s yesterday (really liking them) but I noticed a weird issue.

If my Windows volume is all the way at 100%, the right ear becomes slightly louder than the left. It does not happen at any other volume. e.g. at 99% Windows volume it sounds centered... as soon as I increase it to 100% I hear the shift slightly to the right.

Even if I make the volume from the music player very low, the problem still occurs when the Windows volume is at 100%, even though the music overall is very quiet, if that makes sense.

Any ideas?

Could be a jack issue? Try plugging them into a different source and see what happens?

Well I still have my old pair of AD700s, nothing like this happens, so I don't think the jack is busted.

I am not using a dedicated amplifier - the DT770 is plugged straight into my soundcard (HT Omega's Striker 7.1).

Is it possible that the lack of an amp could have something to do with it? Like I said it only occurs at Windows volume 100%... even at 99% it's perfectly fine.

What confuses me is that if I have Windows volume at max but have itunes volume very low, the issue still occurs even with very quiet music, which makes me think it's not because of lacking an amp since the headphones aren't being pushed very hard. I don't know much about this though... doesn't happen with Ipod Touch but the maximum volume isn't nearly as high.

Probably not related to a lack of an amp. Could be a soundcard or jack issue despite not happening with your ad700s. Does rotating the plug or whatnot stop the problem?

You might want to try plugging into more sources to confirm this. If it happens for other sources it might be a channel imbalance caused by some sort of driver mismatch or something.
