How do you store your headphones?

It was a random thought that occurred to me after I bought a new pair of headphones, and I was curious.

How do the majority of audiophiles store their headphones? In the original boxes/cases? Or do they just leave them sitting on a banana stand or similar? Do you just periodically take off the earpads and give them a wash to clean accumulated dust? Things like that. To be honest, I was wondering, how often do you guys clean your headphones up and how?

Thanks.

I hang my headphones on a Woo Audio headphone stand and clean the dust covers once in a blue moon.

I keep mine in the box they came in; leave cans plugged-in. I leave that box on top of the W4S DAC and simply uncover the box when in-session. And each time I need to take the cans off, I just set them back in the box.

For my Shure's I would sometimes also put it back into it's box. usually however.

i have stopped this solution temporarily, as some creases have started to appear, i will add padding soon to the stand.

I box/bag them up when they're not in use.  If I left them out all the time they would get dust on them.

One cheap option is to go to the dollar store and buy those plastic storage bins and put them in there.

I throw mine in  my work bag and hang them from my chair when indoors. Then again they are HD25-1's so they can take it.

All of them hang off one of these - a Twinstar telescope.

Except the PS1000 which lies flat on my table, it never hangs - don't trust Johnny G's headband for

that period of time with the weight of those things. Time for a cigar box.

I never put any headphones in their original boxes. Most of them are impractical for storage (crunching up the cable; hard to get the phones in and out etc)  Instead I first put them in one gallon Ziploc begs and leave the cables in a nice big loop. Then I would put them all in big cardboard boxes. Even if you have many headphones they can all be in one box and stored away. Just take out  the one you want to use and hang it on a stand or something. When I travel, I just throw the headphone with the zipblc beg in my back pack.

I hang it on a banana stand after use, if I can foresee I won't use it for a while I put it back in the box since the HD600 comes with one (might as well use it), although I haven't since I got a custom cable - the tech flex is too stiff to fit in the box without removing it first. If I'm going a way for a few days I put it in a "drybox" (a Lock&Lock chest with a dehumidifier in it), since I'd have the camera with me it can fit the headphones then.

A few ways to be honest,  The Grado 325 inside a spft foam covered metal box, Which was for a make up set i got from a friend......And my senn HD 580, inside same type of thing but hard plastic..a bit like iv seen for sale for the grado range at £20.......Yet this cost about £5....and was full of make up i gave away.....lol......But if you look around there are so many ways  ( cheap ) you can get stuff.........And my Goldring dr 100, ..im stil burning them in, so a lot more use....etc......But at the min they are on top of a large teddy bear......believe it or not.....lol........Just the correct width, size for most headphones..........cheers all, ....Martyn

Well, I found this:

Looks good, and I can just grab a headphone stand that should hopefully fit it. I figure putting stuff in it's box every single time was going to get tedious, since I'll definitely be using them every day, as I did with my old 595s.

I just leave mine on my desk.

For crying out loud £15...!  Just use a plastic bag...?

I don't worry much about dust.

I bought a Sennheiser Headphone Holder for each headphone that I own, and have all five in a row on my bookshelf.

These are great because they lock down vertically or horizontally, without using screws or nails (ie. easily removable).

Even though they are kinda expensive for what they are, they make it real easy to pick up a set of cans, and put back another.

Banana stand on a shelf I made (and by made, I mean I went into a hardware shop and had a piece of plexi cut to spec and then I put it up). Probably could be sturdier, but it's never had a problem. I've thought about using the travel-cases that some of my headphones include, or the original boxes, but either seems to be a pain for daily use. Long-term storage or to move, everything goes back in its case/box/packaging and then all of those go into a big plastic box to keep water out, and then that box travels wherever it needs to travel. I keep most of the materials that stuff is packaged in, as it helps this process.
