Well, it is up to you to decide if the benefit is great. You can also test how your onboard audio performs at 44.1 kHz with this file and a loopback cable. If you record it (at 96 or at least 48 kHz and 24-bit if possible), and upload the resulting WAV file, I will check how good it is. Although even a $30 DAC or similarly priced sound card could improve at least the noise level.

Don't have a loopback cable unfortunately.

Why use a "cheap" amp for not so cheap headphones?

My DT880 Pro doesn't need much to sound good. Sounds decent out of my phone (better than Grado SR80i but need near max volume) but better from the headphone jack on the cheap speakers on the computer. They sound good so far no matter what but scale nicely with better amplification.

Indeed, if there is a limited budget, saving money on the amplifier/DAC (within reasonable limits) loses less quality than saving on the headphones (unless the cheaper replacement actually happens to be as good or better).

OK, but it's better to connect DT880 directly to the source, than to use cheap amp which will eat the sound for sure.

DT880 250 ohm, 600 ohm are very easy to drive, even from direct RCA output of CD player.

Of course, to gain high levels of volume 600 ohm version require some voltage, but this from the soundcard should be enough.
