First DIY, Going to try to make my own cables and need advice (and do an M50 mod)

Hey! So I just got my M50's in and they are pretty awesome, but after reading some posts I thought, "Hey! I want to mod my headphones too! Then make my own cable while I'm at it!" SO after a lot of thread creeping and posts I came up with me buying the following:

To mod 50's
3.5mm Stereo Socket - $3.58
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/320698750959?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

67/33 Tin/Lead with Rosin Core - $1.59
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/270824215028?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

40 Watt Soldering Iron - $ 2.98
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/380401599878?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

20 Watt Hot Glue Gun with Switch - $5.97
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/140632904007?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

3x Black / 3x Clear Glue Sticks (For using inside the headphones in case there is a bit showing) - $3.67
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/160577344526?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Cable stuff:
Assorted Heat Sink 5 Meters - $1.99
http://dx.com/1m-black-heat-shrink-tubing-five-size-pack-0-8-1-5-2-5-3-5-4-5mm-23450

3mm Black Sleeving 2meters - $3.59
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/250897959506?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Moagmi 2929 10 Feet Cable - $10

Now the thing about the 3.5mm plugs, are that I want mine to be able to connect to my iphone through the bumper (so it can't be thick)

I was looking, and the middle one inside here looks like it would be my best bet, but I can't find it anywhere! (edit: I found it, but its not 3.5mm so I still need to look for one with a tiny chassis)

So basically I'm looking for a awesome looking plug that will fit my bumper, and I want some more experienced to take a look at what I'm buying and let me know if I should get something else, add something, or if something is not needed.

Thanks!

Even at the smaller 3.5mm (as opposed to 6.3mm as pictured), a DIY plug is gonna have a rather large barrel.  Hopefully someone can recommend something slim here, but if this is your first plug you might feel constrained by a barrel with a smaller outer (and logically, inner) dimension.

Probably easier to just cut away at your bumper.  Or replace it with something that doesn't just have a hole for the audio jack?  My Incase, for example, has the whole top cut away.

EDIT:  By the way, if you're looking for Neutrik 3.5mm plugs, start with NYS231 and continue your search from there.

You may have to go without a bumper on your iphone in order to use most straight plug options.  I had to cut away from my iphone case's 3.5 mm opening to fit the fairly small plug on the stock cable of my UE11pros.

Some of the right angle plugs, like the Neutriks, do have a smaller diameter plug though so maybe consider using one of those.

There are some narrow barrel 3.5mm connectors out there. For instance...

But the narrow ones tend to be harder to work with - and you end up being pretty limited on what cables you can use to fit.

Well I know my cables are small enough, they are 2.8mm, but this will still be my first time doing any of this so I suppose I should start with a regular sized jack first

I won't be listening to music through my iphone for a while since these are mostly for work, but I do have an adapter coming that should fit over it if I ever need to, I suppose I'll keep that ugly solution until I'm more confident to go for a small one (if I even find one!)

How are my materials though? That's the biggest thing im worried about right now

Edit: And about soldering, so basically since the 2929 cable I'm getting has 4 connectors, I tin 2 together (twice for the 4 wires), solder them to the same part of each plug? Do I have to ground anything?

2nd Edit: Yeah, this is my biggest issue right now, I see cables made with 3 wires, some with 2 and have no clue what the difference is, I can't find any info anywhere either!

With my Mogami 2929 cables, they each have 4 cables inside, so would I have to use 2 different cables and braid them? Or cant I just use the 1?

Thanks :)
