PX100-II Review | The Sennheiser HD625 - Page 4

Since everyone is on the KSC75 vs px100 tangent, my impressions of cheaply modded (headband, kramer, quarter mods) KSC75s are that they have some of the most liquid effortless and clean mids I've heard in headphones regardless of price. The treble has a fairly good timbre although not totally smooth and therefore has a little grain. Bass is punchy but non-distinct and lacks texture compared to headphones 20 times its price like HE400s.

But the mids, man, the mids are to die for with these.

Being a relative audio-newbie, what I was probably trying to say in the above review was that "the mids are to die for with the modded KSC75's" LOL!

There certainly is something about the modded KS75's, because my enjoyment level has not decreased in the slightest. Btw, instead of the kramer & quarter mods, I did the "replace the plastic driver covers with steel mesh" mod. My guess is that the end results are quite comparable.

Sounds more like a grado mod... ?

I just bought the PX100ii today, before I happened upon this thread. I was looking for something I could use with my laptop that doesn't need an amp, when I'm not using my 598s.

I have the PX100-ii and HD595, and recently borrowed the HD600 so had all three around for a while. It's really amazing how well the PX100 holds up. The bigger siblings do a better job with an amp behind them, but for the cost difference and portability and ease to drive, the PX100 easily stands its ground. It also doesn't suffer from an impedance spike like the 595/600, so playing from an amp with a higher output impedance doesn't hurt, whereas the 595/600 had noticeable midbass humps due to the impedance curve.

I have tried about every headphone from sennheiser (as my father works in sennheiser) . looking at the review i was convinced to share information i have. if u compare with hd 598 or hd 600 . px 100 ii  stands alone as they are much warmer compared to hd 598 and 600 and much more portable and comfortable. so they are good portable headphones. now when we compare them in terms of details:-

hd 598:- flat response, sounds godly when paired with any vacuum tube amplifier (i use McIntosh MC275) where as px100 ii starts to distort at higher volumes with this amp. if the volume is too low mids and highs mix a bit( mainly 800hz and 2khz). i will rather say use px 100 ii  without an amp or u can use fiio e7 for a detailed and rich conversion.. i am not shy to say that px100 ii sound better than  hd 598 (without amp).

now my fav hd 700:- when u buy a headphone for almost $1000.(u will like them as u hv no other option). but after burning them. i will say px100ii did a great job against them too. mainly i bought hd700 for show off( well sennheiser can not go wrong with any of there headphones..). hd 700 is bit sturdy .hence one of the best choice for audiophiles.. hd700 without amp when compared to px100ii:-

px100 ii is warmer

px100 ii lacks soundstage(in comparison to hd700,hd598).

mids in px100 ii is bit muddy (heavy metal only) which can always be sorted with small amp like fiio e7. and there is something called equilizer guyz learn to use that..:p. thats not a problem in hd 600,598 and 700.

px100ii is a steal for its price($60), it still stands when compared to headphone which are almost 10X or 15X price.

so my collection comprise of hd700,px 100 ii , hd598 and many gaming headsets(will not name them as this is an audiophile forum). i dont know there value when compared to koss protas or grado( never used them).

conclusion:-

without amp px100ii can be as good as hd598 and hd700. all noobs should buy px100ii (like i did :p) as they are bang for mny ($60). ppl who can not afford higher end models can try px100ii to know how it feels like.. till then they can collect mny for an upgrade.. i have hd800 in my hands will gv a review when i burn them after 100- 200 hrs. and compare it with px 100 ii.

GO BUY PX 100ii and BE SATISFIED..

got asus sound card on my pc. now px100 ii are better than hd 598 and hd 600. here hd 598 and hd600 are connected to my mac amp.
