Just wanted to post in here. I recently discovered the idea of senngrados when considering what to do to mod my grado SR80i, then i saw that these are the recommended drivers. Then I came across this thread & read through the wonderful acclaims of the cans, so i decided to give it a shot.
WOW. just. WOW. HD625s. it really does feel like it. I just listened to some HD580s, and my own HD598s recently and out the box, no burn in these really actually compete on the same level if not better. If this only had better soundstage, i'd definitely take it over my 598s, and over the 600s. I'm in shock how good the bass out of this is. Punchy, fast, well extended with just the amount of volume without muddying up the mids.
Since i actually like these out the box, i dont actually want to ruin it lol. I may buy another pair to do the senngrados and keep this one around haha. Though i may try getting the HD414 pads for the comfort and the treble increase. I'd say anyone on the fence should definitely grab these.
[EDIT] - After burning them in for 20+ hours, couldnt resist the temptation. opened up the sides (took out the foam outside) & switched the pads to the HD414 pads. now its PERFECT. actually the best pair of headphones i have. I actually like these Wayyyy better than both the 600s and 650s (just listened to both again recently). Super clear/crisp& revealing. open soundstage (bigger than than my 598, exciting and detailed without being harsh or too sparkly. also no veil or no darkness, amaaazing vocals, instrument separing, tight bass but still has as good amount of volume without being booming. not to mention if i feel like cranking up the bass i can turn the switch on the bass boost on my cayin c5 and its extra satisfying. and i can EQ for bass to be slamming and it handles distortion super well too.
HIGHLY recommended. the next step is to buy a backup (or two?) and make a senngrado =)
