Headphone Amp with Marantz AV-7005

I'm trying to use a headphone amp with my Marantz AV-7005 processor-preamp and I'm having problems. I've got the amp connected to the CDR output (according to the manual this is the equivalent of tape-out) but I'm getting very little signal to the amp. I have to turn the volume on the headphone amp to max to hear anything at all through the phones. I'm at a loss here. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing, or not doing, that's causing this and what I need to do to get things working correctly?

Got it figured out this afternoon with a bit of help from a techie at Marantz. Its a little complicated.
