Audiophile successor to iPod - Neil Young and Steve Jobs had plans!! - Page 2

Interesting.

They're talking about high quality, greater than cd sound there, which is why they said 15% for cds and 5% for mp3s which makes sense if you think of the masters at 192khz while the cd is only 44.1.

So yes at those sizes 30 minutes per song might be an exaggeration considering a 192khz 24bit song at 5000kbps is 210MB for nearly 6 minutes. Would make sense for an album at several gigs though.

Then he should say %5 of the file size and not 5% of what he gets in a studio. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big HiDef advocate for home use and rarely use anything below lossless but he's not making freinds or advocates by telling everyone they can't enjoy what they already do.

Maybe that's what he meant.... Too bad we cannot ask him. I do not care much about he Apple lock-in monopoly strategy, but they id produce some nice stuff with Jobs.

Maybe now that it's out in the public, they'll quietly work on addressing the ipod's shortcomings to satiate audiophiles.
