Looking to upgrade from Beats by Dre?

Thread Starter

I currently own Studio Beats by Dre and am looking to upgrade. These past few weeks I've been reading plenty of reviews and comparisons with my beats vs other headphones and I'm sure they're plenty truthful when they say the Beats aren't all that great.

So I decided I want to sell these (I know a friend of mine who's interested) and to purchase some new headphones. What I'm looking for in those headphones is they must have really good bass, look stylish (a must), be durable, and under $200. I'm using it on my ipod nano and laptop to listen to electronic music (mostly dubstep on full blast).

I've looked at the Pioneer HDJ-1000 and Audio-Technica ATH M50 because their looks are great. But since I never had the chance to try them, I can't tell if they're strong enough for me when it comes to bass, sharp sound where you can hear every detail, and also in durability. So yeah, when it comes to design, it needs to be over the ear, and the looks should be somewhere similar to the pro Beats by Dre or the Pioneer HDJ-1000 or Audio-Technica ATH M50.

I'm also interested in the Sony XB-500 but they look horrible, that's the only reason I didn't buy them. Same with the Sony MDR V900 and 7509HD. I am quite picky when it comes to style XD

Does anyone have a suggestion for some good, stylish headphones under $200 that are better sounding than the Studio Beats by Dre and have powerful bass?

Have you looked at the Sony ZX700? I don't know if you will consider it stylish. The VModa Crossfade LP is well liked and considered stylish. So is the V Moda Crossfade M80, although the M80 isn't circumaural for most people.

I'd probably look to upgrade toward high-endish portable, ie. DT 1350/T50p / HD-25 / ES10 / SM3 / SE530 etc.

The Beats aren't THAT bad and a mid-fi headphone isn't substantially better, imo. It may be an upgrade, but not quite worth the hassle. Its better to really save up and invest a good amount of dough.

IMHO, The ATH M50 sounds just like the Beats Studio HD. :) That's a go too, if you like Beats sound signature.

You mean the Beats Studio HD sounds just like the ATH M50 (the latter came first).

Ultrasone HFi 580 would probably fit your bill.
