Definitely under $100.. preferably closer to $50..

This are just for around use so isolation and sound quality are important. Style is nice too..

Edit: Source is an ipod. I listen to a variety of music.

How about the AKG K430 for $55(Amazon), or the JVC HAS650 $34(Amazon)? I assume you also want it to be compact?

They don't have to be compact necessarily. They just have to have decent or good isolation and good sound quality. What about the superlux 681s?

Instead of the Superlux 681, I was thinking about the Samson SR850, which is also made by Superlux. The JVC HARX700 ($33.50 on Amazon) also looks interesting. I don't know how well these isolate though, as they are semi open.

How about the Senn PX-200s?

The PX200II has received good reviews, however it is around $70. I guess he wants to stay under $50.

The Samson/Superlux headphones seem to be the leaders at the moment. Unfortunately they don't have a detachable cable.

if a detachable cable is important you could also look at the monoprice 8323 headphones they go for around $21 plus shipping.

The JVC Harx 700 has pretty good isolation. Much better then you'd expect. It used to be fairly popular but its fallen out of favor recently. But I still think its one of the best for that price bracket.

The HARX700 was unavailable for several months. First the price went from $33 to $55, then no one had them. Now they are $33 again and in stock at Amazon.

People talk about getting hot ears pretty fast with them. That is why I didn't buy it.
