[Request] Suggestions for new headphones

Thread Starter

Hey guys.

As the title says i am searching for headphones.

My price range would be about 200€ (could go up a bit aswell)

I am seeking more bass heavy headphones for genres like dubstep, hardstyle, drum & bass.. (electronic stuff), hiphop.. but i would prefer them to sound ok in other genres.

It would be nice if you tell me which kind of bass you have in mind if you propose the headphones.

Also i really love to listen loud.

Maybe i can describe myself more like a listener with a bass heavy attitude who is more in the V-shaped category, - fun listener)

I really want dynamic headphones which do sound "full" and not boring (like some audiophile headphones could be).

The main place i would listen to them would be on my pc.

I do have a FiiO e9 amp aswell.

It could be that i might listen on youtube from time to time (no hate please :D)

I have owned the Sony XB 1000.

Though i gave them back.

My reasons:

I think the bass wasn't popping out like i would like it.

The mid were recessed and the most annoying thing..

The highs were just painful to listen loud imo, really.

I didn't like them at all.

The were pre loud and hurting for my ears.

The other thing i disliked was the fact they do definately sound like tin/can. (notdynamic at all)

Just didnt like it.. so i would be really glad if you would not propose such headphones and could tell me which do have such a sound tho.. so i would not touch them.

I've heard about some cans already and did researches with many reviews.

Some popped up for me..

Sony XB500 (ironic posting xb series.. but those seem to have bass i am seeking, though i am really worried that they just lack in everything else - i think theres better)

Ultrasone HFI 580 (Worried of getting XB1000 like cans with refined bass.. which is good.. but with highs that will just overpower them and hurt the ears)

Audio Technica M 50 (comfort issues, i think there is better)

Beyerdynamics DT 700, 250 ohm - because of my FiiO e9 (sounds good.. are highs a problem? Heard it has problems with loud music)

Beats by Dr Dre Solo.. (oh man.. ye they have bass probably just the overpowering one that i do want.. but there is for sure better, maybe same or higher bass amount with just clearer sound, i dont want to jump on the bandwagon)

some

Philips Fidelio L1 (surprize? :D - i heard the have some good bass input, seem to be outstanding for the price, maybe i dont need to have bass only and it will satify me with "full/dynamic" sound)

I think that's all for now..

Gonna try to give many input as possible.

Just ask me please.

- wanna find the right ones for me :)

What is your price range? Denon 2000/5000/7000 would sound like a good match for you.

Edit: sorry lol just noticed your price range. I think Denon 2000 would be a good choice.

Well you mentioned loving the V-Shape sound and the Denon is definitely that. Its treble and bass are at the forefront of the presentation with the vocals taking a slight backseat. You can easily compensate for this though with EQ or an amp that accentuates the mid range. These cans excel at electronic music and are good all-arounders IMO. I own the Denon 5000 which doesn't have recessed mids. I've also modded them into open back cans which has greatly improved the sound IMO.

I have the HFI 580. it has nice accented tight bass, and the highs are almost harsh and not to well extended at first..but the problem gets fixed by about 20 hours of burn in. i have a review on them in my description. if you don't want bass. these things on some song's will give you very little. on rock, you usually get tht slight bump bump bump from the impact from teh drums :D very nice...and with a good amp......i have gotten XB500 bass on these. the 50mm mylar drivers just hit.

Well i think the 580 might be like the XB1000.

Does the 580 sound a bit like a tin? (XB1000)

About the highs / harshness.. does it get really good after a burn in?

Would be good that someone who owns the ultras and the xb1000 replys in this case.

I just hear about the shrill highs on the Ultrasones.

I just hate if the high are like loud, overpowering.

The XB 1000s were the same shrill highs, recessed mids, good lows but on a high volume where the highs are just hurting.

Second they do sound like a tin.

People do say the Denons have weak bass.. as far as i heard.

But people do claim that it's the best headphone in the price range.

It looks really good but maybe the lack of bass will just kill it..

Who knows if the Philips Fidelio L1 outdoes them?

Some got it already.. maybe they want some input.

Maybe some music i do listen:

Hardstyle: The Opposites - Licht Uit (Coone Remix)  (just amazing..)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIXRVASvCyQ

Dubstep: Nero - Me & You (Dirtyphonics Remix)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2wXfNqm2Ys

Dubstep: Star Wars - Binary Suns (Coyote Kisses Remix) (great song tbh, prolly people who do hate dubstep

will even like it)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy00_VUgsCA

Dubstep: Skrillex - First of the Year (Equinox)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56dt8zCdvdQ

Hardstyle: The R3bels - Armageddon

Hardstyle: Mike NRG - Lost in Dreams (Q-Base Anthem 2010) (Alpha2 Remix) (just a masterpiece, climax, beautiful

melody, you cant stop listen to it, giving you the kick to move with the beats)

Hardstyle: Neilio - And God Said (beautiful.. <3)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zPFU2rL41U

Hardstyle: Crypsis - Strike (Incredible hard, bass needed)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmDicqehuHM

Clubtunes / Techno / House: Ingrosso & Alesso - Calling (Original)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8uCvz2ghG0

I kinda like many other genres.. and techno styles..

The Denons do look really good but do they sound "full enough"?

Maybe the bass isn't the only thing i am worried about.. dunno myself.

But one i can say for sure, i hate overpowering / shrill highs.

Headphones that do not sound full enough. (flat and boring)

Too much bass lacking.. (the more booming and punching the better)

the HFI 580's to me were harsh at first. the highs were not that high and were harsh. that has since been fixed. it has good highs and what not. but require lots of burn in. i have first of the year in my library. CD ripped. great song on the HFI 580's. not the best but it does and plays admirable :D i would suggest going down to a sttore and demo'ing headphones..

That's what i definately would do.. but afaik there are no good stores around.

Are there headphones with a full / tight or bass sound people could recommend at the range?

Or would the Denons 2000 fit the standard.. if not maybe tell where they could lack.. maybe using the tracks as an example.. or a list with pro / contras using my requirements..

Not sure who told you the denons have weak bass because they don't. They reach very low and are powerful. Those who call it weak in bass are most likely deaf from all the damage of listening at such high volume levels.

considering that Lee has Logitech Z5500 consumer audio speakers.....i would say that he is and knows what bass is. i never heard of teh Denon's being bass shy but i didn't say anything. i own the hfi 580's so i only talked about them.i have the Z623 logitechs...and boy. they got some serious bass. turn down the bass and up the highs and you get a decent highs and mids. so yeah. i would have been a little meh if lee didn't have any bassy equipment..but logitechs....... all you hear from neighbors/friends/roomates/parents teh first time you use them is:

So true man.

I own the z5500

They are just insane.

INSANE.

I listened on full bass to half 3/4 and the top neighbour went down to me and said that she could hear the bass.

Got 4 neighbours above me.

Ok after being disapponted with the XB1000 i gonna get the Denon 2000s and try them :)

Thanks for the input.

Ordered.. - got myself the free 1 month amazon prime for them :) (wanna get them tomorrow)

I love already how they do look like and stuff.

I am just holding down myself because i bought the XBs and got really disappointed by them.

So i was asking around and being way more careful now.
