Steve Jobs was working on 24/192 downloads - Page 4

Technically, there isn't any system that can play 24/192 to its "potential", desktop or otherwise. No system has the dynamic range necessary for true 24 bit resolution, and many high-end DACs resample to a sampling rate well below 192 kHz to avoid problems.

24/192 is overkill for 99% of the population that don't have the equipment to play it, and the ears to actually hear the difference. 16/44 is plenty enough for listening for that 99% of the population. Like others have said, hearing has its limits, and every hour your alive, your hearing only decreases. 16/44 lossless downloads have the potential to make money and would satisfy all those "I won't download unless its lossless" folks...that's who Apple should look to for results and to actually make a difference in music downloads. Others will follow and then we would have a world of lossless music. I think that would please a majority of head-fi users more than the niche market of 24/192.

Just sayin'...its my two acorns. smily_headphones1.gif
