OK so if you have ever touched a lenovo W520 in your life before, you know that the on board speakers are just a disgrace to people everywhere, but the thing is there's enough potential space to do an upgrade/ mod. i was wondering if anyone has a possibly method of doing this and can recommenced a louder pair of donor speakers to meet my on board audio thirst.

I have a W510, it's construction is almost identical to the W520.
There isn't much room for speakers in this laptop, about 2-3mm height and a driver of 1.5cm diameter or so, and you'd have to make small frames for them to fit in to.
I don't think it would be worth the trouble.

What there is a difference? are you sure the speakers are properly mounted in your W520? If not, they can vibrate making horrible noises.
Try taking your W520 apart and reseat the speakers, unscrew them and screw them down again, tap the speaker housing with a finger, it must not bang against something when you do so.
