FX700 and EX1000 Owners: What Other IEMs Have You Purchased That You've Been Happy with? - Page 4

For those that have heard FXT90 and EX1000, which is the brighter phone and which phones upper mids/lower treble has a tendency to be too grainy, harsh, or bothersome?

Is FXT90 more forward/aggressive vs EX1000?

I have never found the highs of the TF10, IE80 or MG7 too bright or harsh in any track.

If you like the TF10 the FXT90 and FX700 shouldn't be an issue for you. I can't necessarily say the same for the EX1000 due to the treble spikes it has. But it is relatively a low risk that you would hear this as most people can hear it.

^^^You've heard the FXT90? That's why he's asking, he has one and is using it as a point of reference. He didn't say anything about the FX700.

The FX700 and FXT90 share similarities while the the EX1000 would be completely different. I was under the impression that he didn't own the FXT90 and was deciding between this and the EX1000. To answer his question on which one I consider brighter well that would be the EX1000 but others may say differently.

He has the FXT90 and finds it to be sometimes harsh/sibilant and is curious how it compares to the EX1000 in that regard, which is why he's asking people who have heard both the FXT90 and EX1000 which I'm guessing makes neither of us qualified to speak on it.

Interesting. Well I can say for sure its a gamble either way then. Because on both sides there are people who are sensitive to them and find both harsh and sibilant :P

Selenium, thank you for clarifying.

Olear have you been listening to the IE80 more? I'm curious is any of these 2 are really what you are after after all. I notice with using the FX700 I get a lot of enjoyment when listening to them at low volumes as they will get fatiguing if you are blasting them. Same concept when I had the EX1000 but I had to have the volume at near in-audible volumes to listen to them comfortably. Do you listen at low volumes generally?

The proof of the phone is in the hearing. Gamble it is.

Is the EX1000 as energetic as the FXT90?

To me the IE80 are more laid back vs MG7 and FXT90 the most forward and energetic phone I've heard.

I like louder volumes.

Hmm, perhaps the EX1000 would be too fatiguing.

The EX1000 will be more fatiguing compared to the FXT90.

How does the FXT90 fair in that when compared to the FX700? Is the FX700 more fatiguing than the FXT90? One more question for ya, did the left driver on your FX700 seem to be louder than the one on the right? This is really starting to annoy me now. Square trade I may be calling you for my money!!! lol.

Edit: I think the channel imbalance isn't due to the FX700 but me hearing the actual imbalance presented on the Hifiman 601 through its line out via the O2 reference amp... Phew.

To the OP: honestly, there aren't very many universals that are considered a clear step-above the FX700 or EX1000. I guess you could consider the W4, PFE232, and K3003, but it's all perspective and what you want to spend.

For me, I think the FX700 is absolutely amazing. So is the EX1000. So is the SM3. It all comes down to what you want from the IEM more than performance itself. I would be looking at customs if I were you, or cans. I'm really satisfied with the HD 25 1-II right now as I feel it combined a lot of the stuff I liked from the EX1000 (sparkling highs and amazing tonality) with stuff I liked from the FX700 (a -pretty- good timbre* and satisfying bass).

*I think the FX700 still has the best timbre out of any portable headphone or IEM I have heard. The HD 25 comes close, though.

Exactly it comes down to preference. I'd love to give those PFE232s a try but at $600.00 they are a complete rip off. Final audio would have to come to the $300.00 range to make it competitive with the other High tier IEMs. While other IEMs in the same market may share the somewhat exorbitant full MSRPs, they don't only retail at full MSRP.
