Just got this to use with my MacBook Air. Check it out. I'll post my impressions soon

Looks pretty slick. A uDAC killer, perhaps?

How much did it cost?

It actually sounds really good with my Sony MDR-V600. I have to do more testing to ensure what I am hearing is actually good. The sound signature is a bit forward when compared to my Duet 2.

I wonder how this compares to the Fiio E17.... Anyone?

This DAC/Headphones amp pairs well with the Sony MDR-V6 too.  The low cost for both makes a GREAT music station.

Should I get the Fiio e17 or the audioengine D1, for use with my Pro 900 and Macbook Pro, and for portable use (iPod)

Any comments?

It's USB powered and does not have batteries...you'd have to get one of those portable battery to usb power accessories to use with an iPod. I haven't heard the Fiio, but I've had my D1 for a few weeks now and I love it (although I mostly use it as a DAC only to my A5+'s, I occasionally use it with headphones).
