Noob needs help choosing

Hey all, i'm a total noob to the forums here, I'll get straight to the point.

I'm looking for a set of around ear, closed headphones. Budget is strictly $60, if I can get a good pair for less i'm good with that. I am not located in the US so I will be ordering from amazon, so make all your decisions based on what I can get there.

I'm really looking for something with a good bass kick, now i'm by no means an audiophile (i currently own some logitech around ear noise canceling cans) lolz and they are decent sounding and I know you guys are gonna say ewwww those things are probably flat.So that is my experience with cans lolz don't flame me.

But yes back on track, I won't be using these on anything else other than my desktop pc, I won't be running with these or anything. I usually listen to a bit of everything, from rock to instrumentals (Star Wars soundtrack type stuff) to trance and rap. But as I said in the start I want something with a bit more bass kick.

That's all i can really come up with, if there is anything else you guys.gals think I should know please do.

I was looking at the HD 202's

Sony XB500's. Lots of bass, but may need some eq tweaks to make them sound good with rock.

And welcome to head-fi.

+1 ^^^. These also come to mind....AKG K518LE,  Koss porta pro (on-ear), and Shure SRH-550DJ.... Good Luck!

I would like to respectfully disagree about the MDR-XB500. Unless you are willing to spend time tweaking the EQ on it (as mentioned), they sound very muddy. Yes it produces a lot of bass, but I would personally find it annoying to have to tinker with the EQ depending on what genre you are listening to.

Keep in mind that I am slightly biased towards neutral to slightly brighter headphones, so what do I know. biggrin.gif

For what it's worth, 7 or 8 years ago I had a pair of Koss headphones that were circumaural, and I swear they were less than $50. I can't for the life of me remember the model, but they had some bass kick but had enough  clarity in the mids and highs to be a little more balanced than the XB500.  Maybe take a look at some Koss cans and try them out (if you know of a place where you can demo them).

You dont have to spent lots of time when Equing..it takes just a few mins.

This review is pretty interesting.

Thanks for the link fabio-fi. I gave it a shot and it definitely breathed some new life into the XB500. So I'll admit I was wrong. biggrin.gif It really does need that extra EQ though.

...Now I'm liking these headphones more and more. Thanks a lot. biggrin.gif

To the OP, I take back what I said earlier. With some equalization, the XB500 is a great headphone for the cost. Especially if you like bass.
