Is there such thing as a USB DAC/ Universal Disc Player?

Thread Starter

I'm trying to build a station based on highly versatile gear, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a product that can be used as a DAC but also plays blu-ray, cd, dvd, sacd.

The only player I've found is this http://www.ayre.com/dx5.htm, and well 10,000 dollars is stupid money for any consumer electronic device.

I'm interested in the Oppo BDP-95 or 93 if it can be rigged up in some way that I could stream/transport the files from my laptop to the device and make use of it's internal DAC.

There is no thing that I know of that does all of that. The Oppo can be used as a media player using networked storage but other than that I'm not sure.

The BDP-95 can also use a direct attached USB drive. However, audio file playback features are spartan enough to make one actually yearn for iTunes.

There is a BDP-95 thread on AVS Forums that might be helpful.
