I'm looking to upgrade from the dt 770 pros 80ohm. I really enjoy the bass of the dt 770pro and I thought the denon ah-d2000 would be perfect. However, I keep reading about the loose fit. What I really love about the dt 770 pros is the tight fit. They feel great in my opinion. Could anyone chime in on this or possibly give a different suggestion? Thank you.

Bought these on whim, for your basic train ride to work I don't mind. But its far from being the best I have own.

First, I should note that I auditioned these both straight out of the box, without any break-in time and then later after 53 hours of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite...

A very all-round headphone for me. Just the right one to take on the go or on holiday. Also as a DJ, nice noice isolation. Very durable so you don't have to wonder if it will break if you throw...

This quick review is done after a few hours of listening. I bought them from B&H for the decent sum of 150$. If you've done your research you'll find out that Ultrasone HPs are known for their...

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

D2000 definitely has a somewhat loose fit, which is very comfortable in my opinion. I also find my DT770/600 to be comfortable too. If you were to get JMoney pads I think the fit would be more similar.

What source(s) are you plugging your headphones into?
The DT770 Pros 80-Ohm need to be used with a decent headphone amplifier to bring out their best.
I use both the DT990 and D2000 both of which fit perfectly and stay on my head. Sure you cannot run, jump, and do a summersault with your D2000, but who needs to do that with a full sized can?
I say go for it.
I own the asus xonar essence stx and also a cmoy amp that I used before this soundcard.
I'm just looking for a better quality headphone really. I do love the tight fit of the dt 770. the bass also, to be honest.

I actually moved from Denon AH-D2000 w/ ZXAC "Truth" cable and jMoney pads and got some Beyerdynamic DT770-80 Ohm Pro's w/ ZXAC "Impact" cable and jMoney pads and I'm very happy. They both had great bass but I thought the D2000 treble could get a little hot on certain recordings. The treble on the DT770-80's is laid back in comparison. I also thought the D2000's still had a loose feel even with the jMoney pads and I do have a larger sized melon (7 1/2" hat size).

I haven't ever owned the DT770, but I had the T70 (which looks more or less identical in terms of fit/build - correct me if I'm wrong). Compared to the T70, the Denon will be fairly lose. If you want something that fits a bit more firmly, I'd look at the Kenwood KH-K1000. It does not attach as firmly as the Beyerdynamic, but it does sit more firmly than the Denon (it (KH-K1000) has an auto-sizing headband, and a comfortable amount of "clamp").
I have no idea how they will compare sonicly though (I don't even know how the T70 compares to the DT770). The Kenwood (and the Denon) have very good low-end extension and impact, the Kenwood have a smoother top-end and reasonably 3D headstage (the Denon headstage is bigger though). I personally prefer the Kenwood sound, but the Denon isn't a bad set, it's also probably less expensive and easier to source in some parts of the world.

Try replacing the stock op-amps (operational amplifiers) on the Essence STX to three LME49860NAs (under $20 on eBay).
Might get some more life out of the DT770 Pro 80-Ohm.
But on another note, the price for new DT770 Pro 80-Ohms is on the high side,
so your used ones should sell for a good price.
