W1000x or Edition 8

Looking for a closed phone to be listened to in the house on the (GS-1)  I already have the D7000, I need one more to compare.  I heard the Edition 8 was better for outside use (iPod I guess) .

Of all the AT headphones, I liked the W1000X the best (note, I haven't heard the W3000 yet). But that said, the Ed.8s are the best closed headphones I've heard...period. They isolate better than any closed headphone out there too and work very well with the GS-1 (w/DACT). L3000.gif

 

Just my 2 cents....likely worth that.

I've owned both at the same time.  I actually still own 2 pairs of Edition 8 and the W1000Xs were sold awhile back.  I may get rid of the Ed8s once I get my Thunderpants... who knows :)  I was a pretty big Audio Technica fanboy early on in my head-fi journey, started out with A900s, then L3000s for a couple years.

 

Some people flat out don't like the Ed8s, probably due to issues w/ Ultrasone's S-Logic (I theorize it doesn't work with some head/ear types).  And some say they're overpriced, no argument there.  That aside, to my ears the Ed8s are very much a class above.  Throw in the build quality/materials, compactness and isolation capabilities (the W1000x don't really isolate) and 3x the price isn't too crazy.
