.... Speaking of the d7000, have you heard the Denon dn-hp700, it has the same drivers as the d7000 and has a similar soundstage/imaging capability, obviously not as much soundstage but pretty darn close to the real thing

Also it is pretty damn cheap in comparison

Nope, I thought I already had it up there...

I added it.

Hmm...Never heard of it.

Sounds to good to be true if its only $120 and shares similarities with D7000.  I wouldn't expect the soundstage to be close as the D7000 has huge cups and pads which make a big difference and is more semi-closed (not much isolation).

Interesting though.

So, does the iCan function purely as an amp, or is it a DAC as well? And Chico (or anyone), is there a reason the ODAC isn't included on the list? Would the HRT products be recommended instead on a budget?

The iCan is purely a desktop amp.  The iDac is their DAC.

There isn't really a reason that the ODAC isn't on there.  I just figured there are some people are using much more expensive DACs that are probably better.  I like the ODAC though, and I prefer the ODAC to the HRT MS II.

Okay, because... I love soundstage, and DACs would be a new frontier for me. I'm a bit worried the K712 may under deliver once it arrives :/

But does it really? From a Google search, the D7000 has a 50mm driver while the dn-hp700 seems to have a 40mm driver, so I have my doubts that they are the same.

Then it must be the d2k/5k drivers

You don't already have a DAC?  I thought you did.  So your just running them from your laptop > amp > headphones?

A DAC would probably be an improvement in soundstage.

Lol my laptop broke about a year ago. I have a desktop PC I built, and just recently bought a Mac Mini, but honestly I use my iPod as a source for music. Now I can use the Recon3D usb too, though I may get a DAC to use for music.

iPod Video > FiiO L11 Line-Out connector > amp > headphones.

Pretty sure that among all being very good headphones, the D2k/5k/7k also share quite a number of parts. According to internet sources, they would all seem to have 50mm drivers though the D7000 has a driver with a stronger magnet. What has made you think the Denon dn-hp700 has the same driver?

Sorry, I had heard it from quite a few reputable sources, such as Dweaver, Joker, and some others.
