Deep, wide and detailed bass.
Forward, fast and musical mids.
Sparkley, non fatiguing highs.
All encased in classy looking aluminium cups.
A+ IMO

Have you ever heard the FC700A? I was wondering how they compare. The ES55 look like the same headphone without the hinged headband. And from your description, they certainly seem similar sounding, although the specs are not identical.

Different drivers for sure, the power rating and ohms are different, i havent heard the 700 though. The 55 is my new travel can , zx700 gathering dust now!
Well the FC700A is one of my favorite small portables, but the hinged construction has always bothered me, so maybe I'll go for the ES55. So they look snazzy in person? How's the cabling? That's always key for me in a portable, and another issue with the FC700A. The cable is too short without the extension, and too long and awkward with it.
Thanks for the information and the plug. Definitely sounds like an improvement on the FC700A, which don't sound open. The ES55 have moved to the top of my list.
