ATH-ES55 are rather stunning!

Deep, wide and detailed bass.
Forward, fast and musical mids.
Sparkley, non fatiguing highs.

All encased in classy looking aluminium cups.

A+ IMO

Different drivers for sure, the power rating and ohms are different, i havent heard the 700 though. The 55 is my new travel can , zx700 gathering dust now!

Well the FC700A is one of my favorite small portables, but the hinged construction has always bothered me, so maybe I'll go for the ES55. So they look snazzy in person? How's the cabling? That's always key for me in a portable, and another issue with the FC700A. The cable is too short without the extension, and too long and awkward with it.

The es55 is very classy looking, lovely brushed metal cups and solid construction. The cable is perfect length for putting my cowon d3 into my pocket, its soft rubber, nothing unusual.
i am pretty amazed how open the es55 sound, its very liberating if you are used to closed cans.

Thanks for the information and the plug. Definitely sounds like an improvement on the FC700A, which don't sound open. The ES55 have moved to the top of my list.
