what playback software?

sorry if this has been asked many times but what is the best audio playback software to use for windows 7?

Most of that is preference in my opinion. I kinda like foobar myself because it plays pretty much everything and I can set it up the way I like. Others might prefer winamp, media monkey, songbird, lilith, iTunes or WMP etc.. So just try a few and see what you like. If you mean what the best player is for as far as sound quality goes then I can't really help you since I simply haven't tried everything.

Foobar2000 and dBPoweramp are probably the two best. I use the first, myself.

Audio quality is the same for all players, except if you're using audio effects or equalizers, then the sound may vary from player to player.

I've tried them all...

For the PC, JPlaymini in hibernation mode is the best sounding software out there, and IMHO it isn't even close. Not inexpensive, but worth it. They let you try it for free before you buy, which is nice. If you need a nice looking GUI, their new version coincides nicely with JRiver. It doesn't sound as transparent as it does using Mini, but it gives you a nice interface to work with.

Probably as long as you use ASIO/KS/WASAPI any player should do.

Media Monkey running ASIO

what is asio/ks/wasapi?

and i like foobar so far but adding a track from the album list to the playlist duplicates the addition. like it always adds 2 of the same song. i can never add just one.. what am i doing wrong?

I made a thread a while ago explaning some things about that. It's a bit outdated, but it's still reasonably relevant. Link.
