Need Advice for Beginner Sennheiser HD 650 Setup

Hey guys i need advice for a beginner full size headphone setup.

Ive narrowed it down to the Sennheiser HD 650.

Im having difficulty picking a a good amp and DAC for a reasonable price

I would like to play songs of the iPhone so i was thinking about

FiiO E9 AMP + FiiO L9 L-Shaped Line Out Dock (LOD)

Does this setup make sense? Is there anything i should Add?

Thanks,

Neil

That is not a bad setup.  For the HD650, I suggest adding a DAC separate from the iphone.  My suggestion?  The Objective O2 amp paired with HRT Music Streamer II, would be excellent with the HD650.

The O2 amp is similar to the E9 power wise, but with better transperancy and neutral non-sound coloring signature.  It can run battery power or wall wart power.  You can pick one up fully assembled from JDS Labs.  The MSII is a DAC that is quite a bit better than the iphone's.

Although you did not discuss budget, I would look seriously at a Peachtree Audio product.  I saw that they are releasing an integrated amp with asychronous DAC and headphone output. Looks very interesting.

my budget for the DAC and AMP combined is below 250$

preferably below 200$

thanks for the recommendation Digital-Pride, il look into that amp

the peach tree amp looks way too expensive for me

sorry i should have specified my budget before

As your using the iPhone as the source, your limited to using the iPhone DAC.

The E9 is good for the price (used with the Fiio L cable).

In the future if you use a music source with a USB output, you can add a nice (better quality) external DAC.

To echo above, to my knowledge, there is no way to get a *portable* DAC/amp for an iPod or iPhone in your price range (or I would have bought one). The HRT iStreamer (not the regular Music Streamer) is $200 but I believe it still requires external power. The NuForce iDo is similar @ $250.

To get a portable iPod DAC you have to go with the Cypher Labs Algorithym Solo (DAC only) or Fostex HP-P1 DAC/amp. Those are $579 and $650 respectively. The VentureCraft Go-DAP is an iPhone 4/4S DAC/amp/case combo coming out. Haven't heard the price.
