Cleaning the driver of my DT770

Does anybody have any idea how to clean drivers of a headphone.

Rather than buying a new set of cans + a dac/amp, I decided to try and refurbish my DT770 pro's together with trying out some of the mods (like blu-tac).

Now these DT770's have been used for multiple hours per day for a course of a few years. And basically all protection in front of the driver save for the metal grid has been worn away. Needless to see there are quite some hairs on top of the driver.

So are there any suggestions on how to clean, I've searched but didn't see a lot of results. I don't know if i could safely use rubbing alcohol or whether that would actually dissolve the material.

I plan on changing the headband, velour ear pads, ear foam, cabling. And if possible add new paper or whatever it is to the baffle so the driver protection is back in place.

I'm thinking about perhaps changing the drivers, but that makes me wonder whether I should "transform" my set in something else.

Through beyerdynamic's website you can easily buy spare parts. And getting new drivers for the DT770, is roughly the same price as transforming the entire device into a DT880 (DT880 drivers can be bought in packages of 2, and the ear cups are relatively cheap).

And looking at the prices I could basically get a T1 or T5p for half the price by only keeping my old headband. And replacing everything sound related the cups/drivers/earpads/wiring.

Seeing that its so easy to experiment with this I wonder why I couldn't find any threads regarding mixing and matching various parts.
