HiFiman RE0 source quality problems...

So I've done my research, I've pretty much figured that I wouldn't mind trying out the RE0 for my first pair of good IEM's .

The deal is, a lot of my music is in 128 kbps and they're coming off my iPod Classic.  I'm worried about them crucifying my music.

I was planning on getting a LOD and a headphone amp (Probably the FiiO E5/6).  Having said this, is there another pair of IEM's that will be a little more forgiving but with enough quality to justify paying this much money for them?

Or will the RE0's be fine?  Thanks!

I think RE0 will be fine. But depending on the piece, I think 128kbps would be revealing flaws regardless, since 128kbps might not be enough to contain all of the details you are asking for.

You can try to EQ upper high frequencies down to mask off flaws, though, which is okay in my books, though I think it would be better if you were to go back to the source and re-encode them at higher bitrate.

Sounds good.  I'll go ahead and make my order now.  Thanks!

Definitely get higher quality music. 128kbps for any headphones above the ones that come with mp3s and phones is probably going to bottleneck you.

Ok thanks.  By the way, I just saw something on the RE-Zero's and apparently for a slightly greater amount of money, the bass and mids are greatly improved.  Would it be worth it to make that jump or is the comparison to the RE-0's negligible?  Thanks!

I've never heard the RE-0's, but the RE-Zero works fine with most portable sources unamped.
