Maybe I should mention theses will be going with a pair of denon 7000. More to have an open can an a uncolored sound not to compete with them.

You're mirroring what I'm looking for as my complimentary can. Just not 100% convinced about the Q701.

The AK 70# Sound stage is very very wide, They do have bass when you run them thou a amp that they not picky with. But its Deep low bass.  The Ear pads Felt really good on them and was Comfortable.  The Headband bumps might annoy you. Also make sure you don't start just slapping  them on your head. Because the inside Plastic headband adjuster can break. If your too rough with them.  Even tho you don't listen to electronic music, I have used the AKG 702s for that type of music and it did really good. Of course not like a bass head headphone.   They also did a great job in gaming too. Sure its not a Q701, but 701,Q701 and 702 should be close to each other.

Your gonna need a amp that isnt picky with the AKG's, then sound really well with them.  The Fiio E9 is a budget choice but the Default OPA2134 in the headphone dip-8 do not sound all right when used with the AKG's.  Changing the op-amp inside the E9 to a LT1364CN8 be a suggestion. But it would be alot of work because of the design of the amp. It totally do-able to change it op-amp because I did it my self many times over. When I was using the Fiio E9 with both AKG 702s and this DT880 pro-250. It's mainly the way the amp was designed, as the same op-amp works different in the matrix M-stage besides it being much easier to swap out.

I do have a DT880  but the Pro-250's and not the non pro. so I don't know how the normal DT880 250 sound.  But I do like the DT880 pro-250s. Tho I only got them, because people was talking about how good the DT880 sound. So I sold my AKG 702 to get them. Even tho I was perfectly happy with them.

I sure you cant go wrong with either AKG Q701 and DT880 non pro. Also if you ge the PRO-250 they have clamping force which does loosing up. The pro of the AKG is it detectable cable, so if something bad happen to the cable. you can change the cable it self.
