Cheaper M50 sound sig? - Page 3

murrrr, i think i ought to save for some m50's... the 75 dollars for v6's that are inferior to m50's by 45 bucks is like two weeks in allowance.

i might get some klipsch image s4's for 30 bucks off craigslist and a pair of koss ur55's for home use. Also, are there any m50 KILLERS?

I read the srh840 is pretty damn amazing but laid back and uninteresting-but thats because theyre so good? I dont want HFI580's because thats bass overkill.

I really dont want an HP requiring an amp...unless its some godlike cheap combo.

I remember years ago someone hyped up the Maxell DHP-II as being the best headphone on earth. Not quite, but for $35 I was extremely impressed. I still own it today. Yes..Maxell! All about the driver I guess...

Got the Kicker HP541 (last FOTM) and just want to forget that nightmare. I usually like decent sound clarity out of my headphone and not muffled mids. Then there was the ZX700 as the next "M50 killer". I guess before that it was the RX700 and 900? Now it's this HTF-600. For $35 it can't hurt, but I sure hope it doesn't have the massively bloated bass of the Kicker and sounds fairly clear. Probably not.

I almost pulled the trigger on a pair recently, but noticed the Superlux HD-681 was only $5 more. One headphone that somewhat deserves more attention is the HD-668B. Now, it's not my preferred signature, but it deserves more praise. Not many cheap headphones with that level of detail and clarity for the price.

I find it weird how all the bass monster cheapys get 1,000 pages on their thread, but something like the Beyer DT-235 is unheard of. Same with something like the AD300 or some of the other Beyer headphones.

Hopefully I can really find a $30 headphone that sounds like a $100 headphone. Not even the JVC RX900 did it for me.

BTW the best $35 headphone I ever heard is the Audio Technica ATH-AD300. I prefer it to even the AD700! It even has bass!! Ok, I lied, I only got it on sale, but at Wal-Mart!

Still kind of sad that my T50RP never sounded good. I'm one of the few that had an un-moddable pair. Oh well, I tried! Maybe I didn't even like it's modded sound? who knows..

There's certainly hype, as there is on all product oriented forums.

But saying "the best sounding headphones on here are the ones that don't get much attention"?

I see a huge number of posts daily about AKG 701's, various Ultrasones; Beyer's, Denon's, Grado's, Audio-Technica's...

They all get plenty of attention, and they're generally great sounding headphones.  (You yourself own Q701's. ;-))

Plus the positive mention - quite often - of Superlux, Fischer, KRK, and other brands unfamiliar to many.

To me it seems that there's far less attention paid here to overhyped mass market phones like the Beats, for example.
