Fair enough, not sure what used Westone 3 sell for. Custom idea price below, ESTIMATED.
TF10 $125-$130 new
Fisher Hearing group buy $80
Molds of ears DIY $15/ Professional $30-50
i've seen some sell for around $200 on here in the classifieds. man SOOO much more to consider now! This was a bad idea to start reading around this forum.
If you can get them for your price, sounds great. I forgot to add another $30 or so for a cable doing customs. Well forums like these are great for spending other peoples money.
Have you considered the Vsonic GR-07? It gets a lot of praise, I havent heard them either. Brand new they are under your $200.
Yes and thanks for all the help, i've been reading up on those as well
I think you'll find the W3's fit to be very similar to that of the Shure line. Also, my personal judgement was that the S4 isn't as bass heavy as the W3 (though the W3 is cleaner sounding and relatively better all-around; but it also costs 3x as much).
With that said (and seeing where the conversation has been heading), I really liked the Triple Fi--a lot, actually. The only reason I got rid of them is because of the fit: They are too big for my ears, even with Comply foams (though they make them much better), and I hated how they stuck out of my ears. Sound-wise though, I thought they were fantastic. You could always buy a pair and see how the sound works for you, then maybe try re-shelling if you think the sound is just right but the fit isn't.

from my readings i think the s4 might be too bass heavy for me. I think i also might want to stay away from the Shure line as i feel i have fairly small ears and the size of the Shure buds might be too big. From readings only i feel the size of Westone is more my cup of tea. Wish there was a place in hawaii to test out ear phones.
I've had good experiences buying used on Head-Fi. Bought 4 pairs of IEM's and 2 sets of over-ear phones used from the forum. Have not had any problem with being ripped off or inferior quality etc.
That being said, you do get a piece of mind buying something new and having a warranty. In my particular case, I realized I wanted to try a number of different phones and did not want to pay retail. If the time came I was going to hang them all up and go with 1 set, I may be more inclined to buy new.
