Toslink and HDMI cables - Suggestions please.

I am looking to buy a Toslink cable for my PS3 to go to my DAC. I had two questions...

 

1. Will I hear a difference between 3 FT. and 6 FT.?

 

2. Is there something better than this out there right now?

 

Also, I am using 10 and 15 FT. HDMI cables. I've since rearranged my room and right now 5 FT. is all I need for all of them. They are for my PS3 and PC going towards my AV receiver, with that going towards my TV...3 cables.

 

1. I read that 5 FT. was the best for HDMI, for both video and audio but I know many people go beyond that. Would I notice a difference between 5, 10, and 15 feet?

 

2. Are Blue Jeans Cables better than, say, Amazon or MediaBridge? I read they were the best but I believe most people find all HDMI cables the same. I don't notice any artifacts with what I use now.

With regard to HDMI cables, by and large they're the same. Yes, you don't want to cheap out. But spend a little money to get something that has a decent build quality. You can get away with spending 10 or 20 bucks and still come away with a cable that will do the same job a 50 or 100 dollar cable will do. I have both a cheapy 10 dollar cable and a 50 dollar Audioquest that was a throw-in with my TV. No difference in signal quality. The Audioquest is definitely a nicer build quality. But not 40 dollars better, IMO.

 

With regard to Blue Jean, I haven't personally used them, but I have heard a number of members on this board say good things about them.

Deverica, with regard to your toslink query, a company called Lifatec manufactures high quality glass toslink cable. i have their mini plug to to slink running from my mac to my dac, and it sounds very good. Of course, both usb and toslink are high jitter creatures, so you will need a solid dac to clean house.
