How do these compare for rap? I like artists like the Wu tang clan, Rakim, a tribe called quest, and Dr Dre.

I'd say the XB1000, even though it pains me to do so in a way. They're quite, ehm, blingy, which doesn't agree with me. However, they're the only XB-series headphone that also does other dynamic ranges fairly well, and the bass is taut and well-done. I think you'll love them, but they'll need amping to get the best out of them.

The D2K is a favorite also, but I never fell in love with it. The DT1350 isn't really suited for rap, in my opinion.

Sincerely,

DT150, not 1350. Are the XB1000's better at bass than the 150's? If so how much. And how much better are the DT 150's in other aspects?

The XB1000 excels in bass quantity of the DT150 for sure. If you're looking for a lot of bass, the XB1000 has it. However, the DT150's overall accuracy is much better, with more detail in other parts. The XB1000 is nowhere near as muddy as its 700, 500, and 300 counterparts, but it still doesn't have the detail retrieval of a pro headphone like the DT150. And sorry for the temporary nomenclature mistake.

Sincerely,

Thanks and no problem. How do they compare at bass extension and could I get the DT150's bass quantity to anywhere near XB1000 levels with eq? I'll be using them with an e11 amp

I wouldn't know without looking at sheer numbers, but I believe the DT150 would extend deeper. Yes, EQ would get them to have more bass, but the quality of EQ'd-up bass is questionable.

The e11 amp has a bass boosting dial. Would the bass boost from the amp be better quality? And are the DT150's alot better at mids and vocals?

The only thing the XB1000 would have more over DT150 is bass quantity. Apart from that DT150 will steamroll the XB1000 in any other aspect.

the denon d2000 is the best can i have for those genres besides the audeze lcd-2 hands down.

they have crazy amounts of sub-bass which is perfect for rap/hip hop and most mainstream music.

i dont know how the xb 1000 compare, but i know the denon is cleaner sounding than the other xb models. it has alot more detail. the sound is very lively sounding and very forward at times.

you can get the denon d2000 for under 250 shipped from J & R.

they will not let you down. best of all, you don't need an amp or anything to drive them, it helps, but they sound great out of an ipod.

was listening to t-pain earlier with them lol.

the bass on the denons is great and sounds like a real subwoofer, especially on songs that bump hard. even nicer, the bass goes really low and hits hard when it needs to, especially on rap songs with really low 30-40hz bass.

listen to White Girl by Young Jeezy and USDA and you'll see what i mean wink.gif other interesting songs are Gorilla Zoe - Lost and E-40 - U and Dat, the denons go really low and never lose quantity like other headphones.

denon d2000 have a sound signature resembling the beats by dre if they where actually good. less recessed mids, more detail, alot more sub-bass, good highs, and a cleaner overall sound thats not as muddy and congested.
